Black River Water Testing Results for Wed July 26: The E.coli levels at the Cavendish Gorge area (68 CFU) and Greven Field (56 CFU) are safe for swimming and recreational use. The EPA’s upper limit for swimming is 235 CFU. All sites tested on the Black River by BRAT were found to be safe as well: Buttermilk Falls (135 CFU); Little Ascutney Rd (140 CFU); Downers Covered Bridge on Upper Falls Rd (44 CFU); and Tolles Power Dam (96 CFU). Please note that it is recommended to stay out of the rivers and lakes within 24 hours of a heavy rain, or anytime the water looks cloudy, as Ecoli levels can be a lot higher at these times. Thank you BRAT and Okemo for providing us with this invaluable service. 3. PLEASE CTES NEEDS A BUS DRIVER FOR SCHOOL YEAR 2017/2018: There is a school bus driver shortage in Vermont and Cavendish is no exception. A search has been underway for several months now. Unfortunately, if a driver isn’t found, parents will have to figure out alternative ways to get children to and from CTES this year.

If you or anyone you know is interested in working 4-6 hours per day, with the possibility of more hours for school trips, plus getting your CDL license paid for, along with bus license certification, please contact George O Thomson, Principal 802-226-7758 or Email: george.thomson@trsu.org ASAP!

4. PICK THE BEST BLUEBERRIES AROUND & SUPPORT OUR KIDS: For the third straight year, Bruce and Betty McEnaney have opened up their amazing organic blueberry farm for general picking. Located off Smokeshire, at 354 Miner Rd, just over the Cavendish town line in Chester, it offers some of the best views in VT. Bruce swears this year’s rain has not only created a bumper crop but also the best blueberries he’s ever tasted-that’s saying a lot.

The money raised from the "pick your own" is used to fund the Cavendish Historical Society’s trip for CTES 6th graders to Sturbridge Village. It’s a big class this year, so we need lots of pickers if we're going to make this trip possible.

Thank you Bruce and Betty for your continuing generosity to our community.

5. CCF CELEBRATES WITH AN ICE CREAM PARTY: It has been ten years since the Cavendish Community Fund (CCF) distributed its first grants and the committee wants to celebrate its anniversary with the whole town. So on Wednesday, August 2nd starting at 6:00 p.m. they will be distributing free ice cream at the weekly Cavendish Summer Concert on the Proctorsville green. Since everyone is invited to the free concert, anyone can enjoy the treat.

Since inception the organization has given out over $27,000 in small awards for educational, artistic, or cultural programs, projects and events. Awards have gone to a wide variety of local organizations and individuals, most recently to the Cavendish Town Elementary School to fund their third grade drama project with Weston Playhouse; and to DG Bodyworks to defray expenses of the first annual Firefighter Olympics on the Proctorsville Green.

For information about the Community Fund or about the grant application process go to www.CavendishCCCA.org and click on the Community Fund tab. Or you can call Barbara Dickey at 226-7187.

 6. CONCERT SERIES 7/26/17: Chris Kleeman: On Wednesday, August 2nd at 6:00 p.m. the Vermont based master blues singer and legendary song stylist, Chris Kleeman will perform at the Cavendish summer music series on the green in Proctorsville.

A performer of great energy and focus, Chris is well known for his sparkling interpretive skills, bringing songs from across a broad spectrum to spice up an already simmering, soulful pot of music. He provides a unique opportunity to see and hear the real thing; an artist of high energy and gritty musical performance.

This is another in the continuing series of Wednesday evening public concerts that the town of Cavendish and the Cavendish Community and Conservation Association produce for all to enjoy. Relax in the grass on your blanket or favorite lawn chair – have a picnic or just listen to the music. Help keep the tradition alive and come to Proctorsville to enjoy a warm summer evening with your neighbors and friends in front of the gazebo.

As always, the concerts are free and open to everyone.  Rain dates will be announced on the Cavendish Facebook page. For more information please call Robin at 226-7736.
